Why Am I Still Unwell?

This is the question you ask yourself, when you’re suffering from long-term unwanted symptoms (pain, rash, fatigue, weight, etc) and yet all the people around you seem OK.

And then, as time passes, the initial hope of healing fades and you realise that it’s not happening for you. That’s when hopelessness wants to set in but the mind wants to work out why.

‘Why am I still sick? Why is this happening to me?’
Or ‘What am I doing wrong?’

Here, I share 5 possible reasons why.

(Of course, these are described generically rather than specifically discussing the root cause/s to your particular situation. If you want to read about what your root cause might be, visit here).

You don’t have to be doing all 5 of these possible reasons, but as you read through – perhaps one might spark some resonance in you, even though you were hoping it was another reason (isn’t that always the way?).

If it hurts to read it… great. If it stirs up emotions that you don’t want to feel, even better.

These responses can usually be a sign of potential change.

Ultimately, it’s change that you want. Right? You want to feel healthy, so you can enjoy life and create the things you want to create in it.

But first… let’s discuss this graph.

I call it the Health S-curve and feel it’s probably the best representative on what happens on a health journey.

Picture
To summarise key points about the graph:

  • The scale on the left is your level of health from 0 to 100%. Around 50% is the tipping point between feeling generally well or unwell in your overall health (ie how much you can function in daily life).

  • The bottom axis is the culmination of actions you've taken toward health, which can include daily habits and transitional healing treatment. It can also include good habits that have cumulated over time and avoidance of bad habits. Note this is not any old health action, it has to be true action for your unique situation.

  • 0% is pretty much near-death and 100% is perfect health, but note that the effort to get to perfection has a very low return on investment (ROI) after about 80 to 85%. In fact, it’s next to impossible to reach and maintain 100%.

  • The best ROI is between 60% to 80% health – you feel good and the amount of effort is sustainable

  • 50% is that miraculous tipping point. This is where it only takes a small action to tip into the other side of health and sometimes a healing can seem like a miracle because of that.

  • Below 40% can be a long journey of feeling unwell and a lot of effort to sustain some semblance of wellness. It can often seem like so much is required just to feel a little bit better.

And if you are below the 40% level of health, it will be common to ask ‘Why am I still unwell?’ with all the things you’ve done to try and get better.

Using this graph, let me explain 5 possible reasons why.

POSSIBLE REASON #1 – You’re just not really doing anything about it

Picture
It’s hard to admit, but the most important thing you could do if this reason is true is… be honest with yourself. Possibly the hardest part is taking your head out of the sand and seeing the truth that nothing has happened, because you haven’t made it happen.

And underneath all that could be a plethora of reasons. And underneath all those reasons is usually just that you’re scared. Scared that you might make a mistake, that you don’t know what to do and that there may never be a path for you to get better.

Recommendation
If this is true for you, there’s nothing to be ashamed about. It’s just current reality.

Instead, take responsibility. Make this your new starting point, start from a blank slate and start taking action. Just start.

You’ll figure it out as you go, even if you have to carve your own path.

POSSIBLE REASON #2 – You’re not taking the action that will truly make you better
Picture
This one is trickier.

A lot of people feel better that they are doing something. Even if that something is doing nothing! And there’s a lot of ‘healthy actions’ that will lead to nothing.

You could be getting energy healing, when you’re needing antibiotics.
You could be popping pharmaceuticals, when you’re needing to face your emotions.

The crux of the problem is that you’d rather do things that are ineffective, than take effective action. You’d rather stay in control, than surrender. Your desperate hanging on to a certain action, means you are hanging onto your current state of health.

But, this is action that leads you nowhere.

Recommendation
Get clear all the things you are doing, and consider the effectiveness of each. Intuition may be needed here, because as we’ve discussed before under 40% can seem like very little is happening when it is.

A big clue is whether you feel desperate and reactive. Being driven from this type of energy never leads anywhere good.

Instead, be discerning, sit in your core and always go with the most obvious answer towards health.

POSSIBLE REASON #3 – You’re making it worse with things you’re doing

Picture
This is more common than you might think.

Out of a survey of over 100 medical intuition readings I had done between 2014 and 2017, 20% of clients showed up to be actively doing something to exacerbate their health condition, making it worse than it needed to be.

This isn’t much different from #2, except, instead of staying stationary on the chart, you are moving downwards in health. It feels better to know you’re doing something, but taking the wrong action can also have repercussions.

Examples of what this might look like include: wrong herbs, excessive exercise, stressing yourself out, staying in that relationship that just isn’t good for you.

Recommendations
Same as reason 2 recommendations.

Avoid being driven from desperation and reactivity. Be discerning, sit in your core and always go with the most obvious answer towards health.

POSSIBLE REASON #4 – You’re doing things the long way

Picture
This has to be one of my biggest gripes.

When I hear someone going to a chiropractor for their back when I know in their case, it’s an emotional issue. Or when someone refuses to look at the real root cause of their health issue, and is spending a lot of time, effort and money in a less effective treatment.

I also think – 'well, it’s less effective, but at least they’re inching towards better health. Even if it’s at the pace of a snail...'

But it’s still frustrating.

The truth is that, depending on your particular case, there are modalities and treatments that work really well on you, and there are others that have a lesser effect.

Unfortunately, there are so many possible treatments out there, that we may not have heard of one that could help you move forward in leaps and bounds. The fortunate thing is that there are so many possible treatments out there.

Recommendations
Open you mind to receiving health sooner rather than later. This means being willing to recognise and try treatments that may be less known.

Be willing to get to the root of your health issue and receive the health you deserve.

POSSIBLE REASON #5 – You’re almost there, but not yet

Picture
Some people just aren’t as bad as they think they are. Or make out to be.

This is where being clear where you really are in your level of health can help you move forward effectively.

And if you give up too soon, you miss out on the chance to experience that.

Recommendations
Keep going. But apart from just keep going, it does help to renew your inspiration to improve your health.

Your health is so important, and you deserve to have health as much as anyone else.

Remember your why for doing all this. Because you want it for yourself – and you don’t need a reason to deserve it. You just deserve.
