People tend to skim the surface, with many things.
Say with intuition – people new to intuition get the first hit and then that’s it. But because they don’t want to face the tension, the unveiling of that which is hidden, they don’t sink in deeper. But the deeper you go, the more juicier it gets – that’s where the gold is hidden. Your mind, however, wants to skim the surface, skip and glance over things, get distracted.
Another example. Take the mind-body connections. This is where if you have a body issue, it is actually a reflection of something in your mind and consciousness. Is it true to say that what is reflected in the body, is also reflected in the mind? I believe so. I see the whole mind, body and energy field as a reflection of a point in consciousness, but manifesting on different vibrations.
But if you just go with what you see on a superficial level, you can only grasp the tip of the iceberg.
To illustrate this further: someone might have a skin rash.
If I was to use new-age books that focus on the mind-body connection (which, don’t mistake me, I absolutely love – but they have never satisfied my endless quest on health):
- Book 1 – (rash) irritation over delays. Babyish way to get attention. (skin problems) anxiety, fear. Old, buried guck. I am being threatened.
- Book 2 – (rash) irritation of your emotions of unworthiness or inadequacy. If itching, it is a problem that recurs because you have not understood why you have those thoughts. (skin) The emotion of inadequacy or unworthiness and not being in your true feelings.
- Book 3 – (rashes) A rash is an irritation at the very edge of where you and the world meet, so it is connected to communication issues, times when you feel unprotected or overly sensitive. It can be caused by an allergic reaction to food or a chemical substance, or an overreaction to something or someone; or it implies you are feeling embarrassed or ashamed by something you have done.
You can imagine me, in the years before intuition, lost and confused – and looking to these explanations. And still being confused after reading them. The only common thing is irritation – yes, I feel irritated when the skin rash is itchy. But by nature, I’m not an irritable person.
On a superficial level, it’s all very confusing and dissatisfying.
When I started developing the i-Body Scan (Intuitive Body Scan), I practiced on myself first. Looking into myself, intuitively, I could see related organs and body systems like liver, the lymphatic system and the immune system. The surprising thing was that I could see my personality in these body parts – reflected back to me. Egoic (self-limiting) tendencies and traits. It was like an ‘a-ha’ lightbulb moment.
The common feedback I get from people who receive their first i-Body Scan is: ‘That’s me!’.
So, going back to the skin rash analogy.
Going deep, the root causes may vary. The cause may be immune related, ranging from infections or infestation to allergies and eczema to autoimmune lupus to skin cancer. The cause could be a side-effect from poor circulation such as caused from Diabetes or muscle flare-up from Dermatomyositis. It could be caused by genetic factors through your biological parents or external factors like poison ivy.
Although the skin is affected and there are similarities in that, the specific diagnosis for each person will be unique. And going deep to locate the root cause, and then reading that area – interpreting what it means about them - will get into far more deeper core beliefs and definitions, then if you stay skimming the surface of symptoms.
When you hear the truth hidden deep in your body's ill-health and painful symptoms, an unveiling of those core beliefs and behaviours occurs – it’s almost like an epiphany moment. ‘Ah, I see...’ Connections get formed. That, in itself, is a form of healing.
But more importantly is not just determining why. You can spend years and decades, on figuring out why. I have. This is another way in which we skim the surface – trying to figure out the problem to bits. A common response is – ‘well, logically, once I know why, then getting better is an automatic follow on from that.’
You need to go deeper than that. Actually, beyond that. This is where a new vision is formed, a new paradigm and potential of health. But first, you need to go deep to deconstruct the old paradigms and structures. See it for the illusion and the lie that it truly is. Only then can you truly let go. When you’ve gone deep.
